OK, illegal immigration has got to stop.  We’re paying FAR TOO MUCH for illegals in this country. Here’s what I propose we do to change the current situation:

1. Protect the borders. Beef up Border Patrols and include deputized civilians or Army Reserves if necessary.
2. Change the law to punish businesses who hire undocumented illegal workers. I have no problem with seasonal workers who come and go for a defined period of time, but they should be limited in the scope of their time and in the benefits they receive (see below).
3. No more freebies — free medical care, free (or greatly reduced) education, free social services, etc. American citizen PAY for these freebies, yet they do not get any benefit from their tax dollars… unreasonable.
4. Eliminate the “anchor baby” scenario (where 2 illegal parents give birth in the US, creating a new American citizen) by requiring at least 1 of the parents be a legal American citizen.  Just as sure as 2 wrongs don’t make a right, 2 illegals shouldn’t be able to make 1 citizen just by illegally crossing our borders!
5. Stop issuing drivers licenses and other “official documents” to illegals.
6. Make English the ONLY language on official legal documents of the state and Federal government.
7. Require a mastery of English and a decent knowledge of the Constitution before allowing immigrants to become citizens. It was required of my maternal grandmother and it should be required today too!
8. Establish a quota system for immigration which sets some acceptable targets each year. We don’t want to discourage legal immigration, but we also can’t take everyone at once — we never have and we never should.

I’m not so sure I totally agree with the Arizona law and what all constitutes “reasonable suspicion”, but I certainly understand their frustration at the current situation. There is literally a flood of illegals coming into America which use our fiscal resources. Combine that fact with the rise in criminal activity and the situation is at a crisis level.

Make these changes and then we’ll see where we need to make changes…

I’m not surprised by everyone wanting to tar and feather former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee for his decision to commute Maurice Clemmons’ sentence back in 1999. His action did set the ball rolling on a 10 year path of suspected mental illness, accused child rape, and the apparent murder of 4 law enforcement officers in the State of Washington. That being said, I too would have considered the clemency request when you hear of an 18 year old sentenced to 95+ years for robbery and theft convictions. Afterall, I read (not too long ago) that the average time served for murder in the US is between 10-11years¹. I would give Huckabee the benefit of the doubt (something his political enemies won’t do) because it’s clear the several other entities played a significant (probably more significant) role in this tragedy than the former governor.

Take, for example, the judge who reportedly over-turned a “no-bail” ruling by another judge and granted Clemmons bail just a week or so before his (reported) rampage against the police. The man was up on child rape charges, was wanted on a felony warrant from Arkansas, had supposedly told people he was the Messiah and the Barack Obama would soon acknowledge that fact –  and this judge changed another judge’s decision and let Maurice Clemmons out on bail?? And people want to blame this blood-bath on Huckabee?? REALLY??

Don’t get me wrong — I’m not a Huckabee fan or supporter. But I am a fan of this guy:

Dear President Obama,

My name is Harold Estes, approaching 95 on December 13 of this year. People meeting me for the first time don’t believe my age because I remain wrinkle free and pretty much mentally alert.

I enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1934 and served proudly before, during and after WW II retiring as a Master Chief Bos’n Mate. Now I live in a “rest home” located on the western end of Pearl Harbor, allowing me to keep alive the memories of 23 years of service to my country.

One of the benefits of my age, perhaps the only one, is to speak my mind, blunt and direct even to the head man.. So here goes.

I am amazed, angry and determined not to see my country die before I do, but you seem hell bent not to grant me that wish.

I can’t figure out what country you are the president of. You fly around the world telling our friends & enemies despicable lies like:

• ” We’re no longer a Christian nation.”

• “America is arrogant” (Your wife even announced to the world,” America is mean- spirited. “Please tell her to try preaching that nonsense to 23 generations of our war dead buried all over the globe who died for no other reason than to free a whole lot of strangers from tyranny and hopelessness.)

I’d say shame on the both of you, but I don’t think you like America, nor do I see an ounce of gratefulness in anything you do, for the obvious gifts this country has given you. To be without shame or gratefulness is a dangerous thing for a man sitting in the White House.

After 9/11 you said,” America hasn’t lived up to her ideals.” Which ones did you mean?

1. Was it the notion of personal liberty that 11,000 farmers and shopkeepers died for to win independence from the British?
2. Or maybe the ideal that no man should be a slave to another man, that 500,000 men died for in the Civil War?
3. I hope you didn’t mean the ideal 470,000 fathers, brothers, husbands, and a lot of fellas I knew personally died for in WWII, because we felt real strongly about not letting any nation push us around, because we stand for freedom.
4. I don’t think you mean the ideal that says equality is better than discrimination. You know the one that a whole lot of white people understood when they helped to get you elected.

Take a little advice from a very old geezer, young man. Shape up and start acting like an American. If you don’t, I’ll do what I can to see you get shipped out of that fancy rental on Pennsylvania Avenue. You were elected to lead not to bow, apologize and kiss the hands of murderers and corrupt leaders who still treat their people like slaves.

And just who do you think you are telling the American people not to jump to conclusions and condemn that Muslim major who killed 13 of his fellow soldiers and wounded dozens more. You mean you don’t want us to do what you did when that white cop used force to subdue that black college professor in Massachusetts , who was putting up a fight? You don’t mind offending the police calling them stupid but you don’t want us to offend Muslim fanatics by calling them what they are, terrorists.

One more thing. I realize you never served in the military and never had to defend your country with your life, but you’re the Commander- in-Chief now, son. Do your job. When your battle-hardened field General asks you for 40,000 more troops to complete the mission, give them to him. But if you’re not in this fight to win, then get out. The life of one American soldier is not worth the best political strategy you’re thinking of.

You could be our greatest president because you face the greatest challenge ever presented to any president. You’re not going to restore American greatness by bringing back our bloated economy. That’s not our greatest threat. Losing the heart and soul of who we are as Americans is our big fight now. And I sure as hell don’t want to think my president is the enemy in this final battle.

On Sunday (7/19/2009) an Islamic group called “Hizb ut-Tahrir” opened a conference in the Chicago suburb of Oak Lawn, IL under the title of “Fall of Capitalism and Rise of Islam”. Although the group, which I’ve read is 50 years old or so, is not on the FBI/CIA terrorist list (and they claim to denounce terrorism), I am troubled by the fact that they want a Caliph to return to power.

Here’s more commentary:

“Hizb ut-Tahrir is one of the oldest, largest indoctrinating organizations for the ideology known as jihadism,” Walid Phares, director of the Future of Terrorism Project at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, told FOXNews.com.

Phares said that Hizb ut-Tahrir, rather than training members to carry out terrorist acts like Al Qaeda, focuses instead on indoctrinating youths between ages of 9 and 18 to absorb the ideology that calls for the formation of an empire — or “khilafah” — that will rule according to Islamic law and condones any means to achieve it, including militant jihad.

Hizb ut-Tahrir often says that its indoctrination “prepares the infantry” that groups like Al Qaeda take into battle, Phares said.

“It’s like a middle school that prepares them to be recruited by the high school, which is Al Qaeda,” he said. “One would compare them to Hitler youth. … It’s an extremely dangerous organization.”

Phares said Hizb ut-Tahrir has strongholds in Western countries, including Britain, France and Spain, and clearly is looking to strengthen its base in the U.S.

I apologize for my absence, I have been away from the computer with the birth of a child. Mother and child are both doing fine — thanks to all of you who sent congratulations our way!

President Barack Hussein Obama’s first 100 Days in office is a huge media event tonight. The MSM is in a tizzy because Fox has decided to carry American Idol and is pushing the President’s dog and pony show to its news channel. This morning I watched one of the networks (they’re all the same except for Fox) as it played snippets of average Americans giving their unbiased opinion of the President’s performance — those which they have vetted and edited, of course. Most were almost comical — they ranged from “he’s done a spectacular job (A+)” to “he hasn’t done much, but he inherited such a mess from Bush (B+)” and “I don’t think he’s done much, but he’s still my President (A-)”. I also laughed at the white woman who said “he hasn’t done anything, but it’s good to have a black man as President”… really? Two of the 3 snippets said he hadn’t accomplished much, but gave him above average grades while the third said he was an over-achiever.  Wow, spending TRILLIONS of dollars apparently does buy you good marks with the useful idiots out there.

I, respectfully, disagree with the MSM and their minions. I think his wasting of Trillions of (our) dollars is bad. I think the government taking over control of American companies is a BAD idea. I think his cuddling up with the world’s leading despots and his ‘Blame America First’ doctrine does nothing to help US interests. Furthermore, I think his minions spending some $320,000 to fly Air Force One low over NYC (and scaring the crap out of the citizens) is another example of stupidity in his administration. In fact, there has been nothing in the first 100 days which had changed my opinion of him — he’s a Chicago Democrat with a thug, socialist political agenda. His 2 biggest accomplishment seem to be that he is black and that he speaks well when he’s in front of a teleprompter. He is an empty suit — unfrotunately, that makes politics a great career choice for him.

Oh, and lest anyone think today’s politicians are altruistic, what about Arlen Spectre’s change BACK to the Democratic party after a 43 hiatus? Folks, it’s like I always tell you — politics is about power and control, not about doing civic-minded deeds.

Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput told a Canadian audience this week that some Catholics are treating President Barack Obama with a “spirit of adulation bordering on servility.”

“In democracies, we elect public servants, not messiahs,” he said.

Chaput also warned that an overly deferential attitude toward Obama makes the political situation “very hard for Catholics in the United States.”

Chaput delivered a lecture Monday night at a church on the campus of the University of Toronto. His remarks, reported by the Catholic News Agency, were picked up by blogs and nationally watched Web sites, such as the Drudge Report.

Chaput could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.

He was in Toronto to promote his book, Render Unto Caesar, which discusses how Catholics should bring their faith into public life.

In the presidential election, 54 percent of Catholics voted for Obama, who is pro-choice on abortion, which is condemned by the Catholic Church.

“President Obama is a man of intelligence and some remarkable gifts. He has a great ability to inspire, as we saw from his very popular visit to Canada just this past week. But whatever his strengths, there’s no way to reinvent his record on abortion and related issues with rosy marketing about unity, hope and change,” the Catholic News Agency quoted Chaput as saying.

“Americans, including many Catholics, elected a gifted man to fix an economic crisis. That’s the mandate. They gave nobody a mandate to retool American culture on the issues of marriage and the family, sexuality, bioethics, religion in public life and abortion,” he said.

Dear Bishop Chaput: the liberals don’t see it the same way…

So many people in this country want “The Government” to pay for, well… everything, that they could care less about abortion, bioethics, cloning, sexuality, religion, or personal freedom. The current administration DOES see their election as a mandate to change our nation from a capitalistic society to a socialist utopia — and frankly, I can’t envision a socialist utopia which contains a catholic church.

Wake up PEOPLE!!!

“If you are with the Americans, you are a legitimate fighter, you are a hero, but if you are fighting against a country supported by America then you are a terrorist,” said Abdel Bari Atwan, editor of the Palestinian newspaper Al Quds Al Arabi.

Well, Abdel… if you support the extermination of a religion and an entire nation (Israel and the Jews) then you ARE A GENOCIDAL MURDER. There… is that better?
