From the Catholic News Agency via the Rocky Mountain News**:
Denver Archbishop Charles Chaput told a Canadian audience this week that some Catholics are treating President Barack Obama with a “spirit of adulation bordering on servility.”
“In democracies, we elect public servants, not messiahs,” he said.
Chaput also warned that an overly deferential attitude toward Obama makes the political situation “very hard for Catholics in the United States.”
Chaput delivered a lecture Monday night at a church on the campus of the University of Toronto. His remarks, reported by the Catholic News Agency, were picked up by blogs and nationally watched Web sites, such as the Drudge Report.
Chaput could not be reached for comment late Wednesday.
He was in Toronto to promote his book, Render Unto Caesar, which discusses how Catholics should bring their faith into public life.
In the presidential election, 54 percent of Catholics voted for Obama, who is pro-choice on abortion, which is condemned by the Catholic Church.
“President Obama is a man of intelligence and some remarkable gifts. He has a great ability to inspire, as we saw from his very popular visit to Canada just this past week. But whatever his strengths, there’s no way to reinvent his record on abortion and related issues with rosy marketing about unity, hope and change,” the Catholic News Agency quoted Chaput as saying.
“Americans, including many Catholics, elected a gifted man to fix an economic crisis. That’s the mandate. They gave nobody a mandate to retool American culture on the issues of marriage and the family, sexuality, bioethics, religion in public life and abortion,” he said.
Dear Bishop Chaput: the liberals don’t see it the same way…
So many people in this country want “The Government” to pay for, well… everything, that they could care less about abortion, bioethics, cloning, sexuality, religion, or personal freedom. The current administration DOES see their election as a mandate to change our nation from a capitalistic society to a socialist utopia — and frankly, I can’t envision a socialist utopia which contains a catholic church.
Wake up PEOPLE!!!

** Sadly, the Rocky Mountian News will be closing tomorrow…
UPDATE: The New york Times wants us to stop using the term “terrorists” and they quote this guy:
“If you are with the Americans, you are a legitimate fighter, you are a hero, but if you are fighting against a country supported by America then you are a terrorist,†said Abdel Bari Atwan, editor of the Palestinian newspaper Al Quds Al Arabi.
Well, Abdel… if you support the extermination of a religion and an entire nation (Israel and the Jews) then you ARE A GENOCIDAL MURDER. There… is that better?
At the recent World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, Russian Prime Minister Vladamir Putin gave the Opening Address is which he spoke about the global economic crisis. His words were (apparently) directed at the Obama Administration and the TARP “solution” they have shoved down our throats. I’ve highlighted the parts which seem to directly relate to TARP:
…
Although additional protectionism will prove inevitable during the crisis, all of us must display a sense of proportion.
Excessive intervention in economic activity and blind faith in the state’s omnipotence is another possible mistake.
True, the state’s increased role in times of crisis is a natural reaction to market setbacks. Instead of streamlining market mechanisms, some are tempted to expand state economic intervention to the greatest possible extent.
The concentration of surplus assets in the hands of the state is a negative aspect of anti-crisis measures in virtually every nation.
In the 20th century, the Soviet Union made the state’s role absolute. In the long run, this made the Soviet economy totally uncompetitive. This lesson cost us dearly. I am sure nobody wants to see it repeated.
Nor should we turn a blind eye to the fact that the spirit of free enterprise, including the principle of personal responsibility of businesspeople, investors and shareholders for their decisions, is being eroded in the last few months. There is no reason to believe that we can achieve better results by shifting responsibility onto the state.
And one more point: anti-crisis measures should not escalate into financial populism and a refusal to implement responsible macroeconomic policies. The unjustified swelling of the budgetary deficit and the accumulation of public debts are just as destructive as adventurous stock-jobbing.
Putin gets it. Big spending by The State doesn’t mean success — in fact, it cost the Russians dearly. Why don’t the libs in America grasp it? Read his entire speech here.

[Backstory: I work at a major university. I work in the College of Media at said university. The Journalism Department and the Advertising Department are both in said college, but Journalism has the gravitas, so...]
When I received an email today which said:
Announcing GERM: the Gender, Ethnicity, and Race in Media faculty initiative begun by…
My first thought was “Isn’t that the problem? You should be reporting the facts, not worrying about the gender, race or ethnicity of the story.”
But then I realized this initiative was probably more-closely related to advertising rather than journalism. I let that sink in for just a second… then my second thought was “Isn’t that the problem? You should be advertising the facts, not worrying about the gender, race or ethnicity of the audience and how to arouse, guilt or berate the viewer into buying your product?”
You see, in the last 50-100 years, we’ve seen a shift in both the news and how it’s presented and in advertising and how it is presented. Advertisers used to tell us why their product was better than another product — remember “Four out of 5 dentists prefer Trident gum“? Now it’s “Got a dirty mouth?” with Orbit gum hawking some pseudo-slutty poolside scenario. Why can’t we return to the ‘good old days’ when everyone knew that the York Peppermint Patties commercials were going to feature someone slushing down the ski slopes to get that cool refreshing flavor?
And look at the news… the 24-hour news cycle means there need to be more stories and more on-air personalities to bring those stories to you. As a result, we see significant comptetition to cover a story (any story) and very little objective reporting. Beyond that, we have a bevy of busty, blond babes bringing you the news. Look around the news programs. Have you seen anyone as credible or fatherly as Walter Cronkite lately?
No, unfortunately, as minority status has taken precedence over facts and result in our culture, this GERM just may be the disease which destroys our (once-healthy) society.

This comes from Aussie Dave at Israellycool.com:
I think the IDF should adopt this technology ASAP! As the old saying goes:
“if you want peace, prepare for war“.

Below is a good video comparing the hatred and bloodlust the Islamic terrorists have for the Jews with the Nazis movement of the 1930’s -1945. If you are young, naive, or a liberal, please watch it and look for the similarities — and when you’re done watching, don’t tell me how “the Nazis were misunderstood” or “most Germans weren’t involved” or worse yet “each country has a right to exist with its own beliefs” — Bull Crap!
EVIL EXISTS and it is being propagated in radical Islam today. When an ethnic group, religion, or country takes a vow to eradicate All Jews (actually, all infidels) it no longer becomes a vague idealogical difference between peace-loving societies — it is a real and viable threat to the western world — not just Israel and the Jews, but all Christians, Hindus, Buddhists — all non-Muslim religions in the world today.
So watch the video and learn the facts, then get your head out of your ass and take a stand against radical Islam — do it before it’s too late!
